Johnny Tong received his bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Hong Kong in 2020, where he studied the optical properties of graphene using machine learning with Dr. Dong Kuen Ki for his bachelor thesis. He was also trained as an intern at Academia Sinica to work on the mechanical characterization of neurons.
Then he finished his theoretical thesis on spatial-temporal modeling of bacteriophage communication strategies with Dr. Namiko Mitarai at Niels Bohr Institute alongside his master’s in biophysics at the University of Copenhagen in 2022.
He joined Prof. Alim’s group in 2022 as an HFSP Ph.D. student at the Technical University of Munich to work on the dynamics of nuclei in slime mold Physarum polycephalum with experimental and quantitative methods.
